Founded in Vancouver as Western Peat Company Ltd.

1939

Opened production facilities in Quebec, Canada.

1941

Opened production facilities in New Brunswick, Canada.

1947

Opened production facilities in Manitoba, Canada.

1964

Opened production facilities in Maisonnette, New Brunswick.

1974

Sold to S.B. McLaughlin Associates, Ltd.

1979

Opened satellite plant and analytical soils laboratory in Anderson, South Carolina.

1993

Sold to Macluan Capital Inc. and renamed “Sun Gro Horticulture, Inc.”

1995

Sold to Madison Dearborn Capital Partners II LLP., Sun Gro Horticulture, Inc. becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Hines Holdings, Inc.

1998

Acquired Lakeland Peat Moss, Ltd., Pacific Soils, Inc. Hines Horticulture, Inc. completed IPO and was listed as HORT on NASDAQ.

1999

Acquired Pro Gro Products, Inc. and acquired Strong-Lite Products Corp.

2000

Completed an agreement with the East Prairie Metis Settlements (EPMS) of Alberta that will allow Sun Gro to begin development of new bogs on EMPS lands.
